The story behind the SEP love-heart keyring for MADE51

Life in Azraq camp can be tough. The camp was first opened in April 2014 to host refugees fleeing from the Syrian revolution.

The camp, located 20 kilometres (12 mi) west of Azraq in hot desert terrain and 90 kilometres (56 mi) from the Jordan–Syria borderhad been previously used during the Gulf War of 1990–91 as a transit camp for displaced Iraqis and Kuwaitis. The camp itself stretches for some 15 kilometres (9.3 mi) and currently hosts around 50,000 people. Samira, Samaher, Etidal and Asma live in Azraq camp with their families. Back in Syria, some of them already were expert crochet artists. When the SEP Team from Jerash camp visited them in collaboration with UNHCR's MADE51, the ladies made their priorities very clear: they all hope to return home or be resettled, but in the meantime they wish to be occupied and earn a bit, while they wait. The alternative? There is not very much to do in Azraq camp...

A new addition to SEP Jordan accessories collection, this keychain is also a squishy anti-stress. It's made from soft red cotton and has a polished lobster clasp fastening that will attach to any tote. We think this piece makes a perfect gift. Launching in February 2019, the month of Love, but perfect for every other month too: a small purchase with a big impact.

As one of the Azraq camp artists said, "thank you for acknowledging that we exist!"
